Reporting
At Windy Ridge, reporting to whānau is an important link to ensuring strong connections, open communication and shared success for our tamariki.
At Windy Ridge School our reporting system is aligned with the Ministry of Education expectations to give you a clear and accurate picture of how your child is progressing against the expectations for their year level. We report formally twice a year at the mid-year and end-of-year, with reports shared via our HERO system.
How Teachers Make Informed Decisions
Teachers do not just look at a single test when assessing a child against their year level expecations. Instead, they ‘triangulate’ the information, which means they gather different types of evidence to build a fair, well-rounded picture of your child's abilities, confidence and independence.
To make sure these decisions are consistent and fair, our teachers work in groups to ‘moderate’, this means they sit down together, look at student work, curriculum expectations and discuss assessment data to ensure overall consistency.
Reporting Language
When you read your child’s report at the mid-year and end-of-year, you will see their learning measured against five progress descriptors. These descriptors, used across all schools, show how independently your child can manage the learning expectations for their specific year level.
Expectations
The table below shows the mid-year and end-of-year expectations. You will see at the mid-year ‘consolidating’ means your child is on track to meet their year level expectations and they are working towards being ‘proficient’ at the end of the year. However, if a child is considered ‘consolidating’ at the end of the year they have not quite met the year level expectations.
