Week 5
News from the Tumuaki / Principal
Malo e lelei,
Today, as a school, we celebrated Daffodil Day / Te Rā Daffodil in support of Cancer Research. We saw lots of bright yellow clothing, and our tamariki enjoyed a slice of baking. Together, we raised $465 for Cancer Research. Thank you to those of you who baked and for your generous donations and to Mrs Crosby for organising the event. By donating, we can support vital research for those in need, which aligns with our school's value of kindness / atawhai. If you would like to make a personal donation to Cancer Research, please follow this link https://daffodilday.org.nz/windy-ridge-school.
Tongan Language Week
This week has been Tongan Language Week. In classes, our tamarki have been exploring the Tongan culture and language. We were fortunate to have some of our Tongan families join our Senior classes yesterday to share some delicious kai (food), stories, music, and dance. Learning about other cultures is important because it helps our tamariki understand and respect different ways of life, fostering inclusivity and connected communities.

Gardens
I would like to thank Bunnings Glenfield for their recent generous donation of seedlings, potting mix, and gardening equipment for our Garden to Table program. Our Envio Leaders and those participating in Garden to Table will use these resources to manage our school gardens. A weekend working bee recently refreshed our gardens; however, we have noticed that our gardens are regularly being damaged or that vegetables and herbs are harvested outside of school time. I politely ask the community not to harvest our produce so our tamariki can enjoy it.
The Library
We are looking for extra whānau volunteers to help in our library at lunch times. This involves shelving books and reading stories to those in the space. If this is something you think you would be able to help with until the end of the year, please pop into the school office to learn more and complete the required safety checks.
Superman Day
Next Friday is Superman Day, and our tamariki will celebrate the extraordinary men in their lives. We will begin in the school hall at 9:00 am with our Kapa Haka welcoming our special visitors. This will be followed by shared activities in learning spaces, with the Superman Hamper Raffle sponsored by our PTA being drawn at 10:25 am. Tickets for the hampers were sent home today with students and are also available to purchase on Kindo or from the school office for $2 per ticket.
A coffee cart will also be on-site for a complimentary hot drink for adults. Thank you to Paul Glover from Ray White Carpenter Reality for this donation.
