Ahakoa ngā uaua, kia toa, kia kaha, kia manawanui
When you find things in life are difficult, be strong, stand tall and be of great heart.
Kia ora koutou katoa,
We have had an amazing few days with celebrations and preparations for the opening of the new building, and our newsletter stands as a celebration to our school’s achievements. We are all very proud of the way the building has turned out and are excited about the future that it will hold for our tamariki.
Blessing
A huge thank you to Matua Danny Watson, our parents and whānau, board members and staff who attended the blessing on Tuesday morning. It was a special moment in Windy Ridge history listening to Matua Danny walking around the building with the tamariki, explaining both the Tikanga around the blessing of a new whare and the stories and meanings behind each area within. Each learning area is themed – downstairs we have the Beach, the Bush and the Gardens, and after having climbed the social stairs or Pohutakawa Grove, upstairs we have the Mountains, the Lakes and finally the Forest.
We are looking forward to holding a public official opening next term where we will be able to celebrate with our whole community and specially invited guests
Moving In
Yesterday a team of professional movers shifted the furniture into the new spaces, and after-school teachers spent time setting up. Each floor looks quite stunning. This morning our tamariki moved into the space after enjoying our first assembly on the Social Stairs. The students are very excited and have been amazed at how their new learning spaces look.
Whānau Connect
A reminder that we will be holding our rescheduled Whānau Connect meetings next Tuesday and Wednesday. For Kōtare and Tui students this will be a chance to show parents around the new building as well as spend valuable time sharing stories and information about themselves with their teachers. For those parents who have still not booked, please go to https://www.schoolinterviews.co.nz/code/ustqr to organise your time. Parents and students will need to attend.
Māori Whānau Hui
We will be holding termly Māori Whānau Hui during 2023. We will reach out personally to our Māori whānau to invite them to attend.
Dates: T1: Thurs 16 March (W7) | T2: Wed 14 June (W8) | T3: Thurs 7 Sept (W8) | Thurs 30 Nov (W8)
At our first hui we are hoping to engage in kōrero around our Kawa and Tikanga relating to pōwhiri to review our current process.
Sports
A reminder to look below for details about basketball and cluster sports, as well as announcements about netball and touch rugby.
Make the most of the glorious sunshine that we currently enjoying and have a wonderful weekend when it comes.
Ka kite anō au i a koutou.

SPORT
Kia ora koutou. We have lots of Sports news to share, and some tight time frames to meet so please follow along carefully.
Basketball
We are taking registrations for basketball teams for semester one for 2023. Semester One Entries close Friday 3rd March 2023 and the competition will begin on Tuesday 14th March 2023. The venue is at the Eventfinder Stadium for Yr 3-4 and AUT or North Shore Event Centre for Yr 5-6 on Tuesdays. The teams are for students in Year 2 (beginners), Y 3/4 (mixed) and Year 5/6 (mixed).
The cost will be $100 per semester. There will be 12 games per semester. Please head to Kindo immediately to enrol.
Cluster Sports
This year we are once again holding a Kaipatiki Kahui Ako Cluster Sports Day. There will be a netball team, a soccer team, and a touch rugby team representing each of our Kaipatiki schools. The day will be held at Glenfield College on Friday 31st March, with the students from the college coaching and refereeing the games. There will be several short games held throughout the day with a prize-giving at the end of the day. We will leave at 9.00 and return at 2.30 pm.
We would like to take a number of girls and boys from Years 5/6 to participate in this event. We can only take about 25 children altogether. If your child would like to participate in the day, can you please go to Kindo www.mykindo.co.nz and indicate which sport they would like to take part in or complete and return the form below. Anyone is welcome, although preference will go to those children who have either represented the school in the sport for Netball and Touch or a club for Soccer. I will do my best to select appropriately. There is no cost to this event.

Touch Rugby
Currently, Touch North Harbour is not hosting a junior module this term due to the council closing the fields due to the floods and weather. They are hoping the council might be able to extend our season for field booking but will wait to get a reply. I will let you know should I further hear from them.
Netball
I will be calling for Netball enrolments in three or so weeks. In the meantime, the Netball North Harbour AGM is fast approaching. This will be held on Monday 20th March 2023 at 7:30 pm. They intend to hold the meeting in person in the upstairs Function Room and will need more than 25 voting members to form a quorum.
If you wish to attend, please register here and let us know so we can forward the appropriate documents.
WALKING SCHOOL BUSES
Dear families,
Did you know that we have two walking school buses? Walking school buses are a great way for your kids to travel to school in the morning with their friends and peers, and adult supervision to keep them safe. It’s fun, free and everyone gets some exercise. Last week, we had 11 kids (6 families) and 2 adults walking with them. That was 6 cars off the roads around school!
Would you like your child to join a Walking School Bus? Are you able to commit to at least one day a week to run the Walking School Bus? Due to growth and popularity, we need more adults to support us. Below are the routes that are currently running, and two that we would like to get up and running. Please contact Jane Brown if you are interested in joining an existing WSB, or are able to support Route A or B.
Thank you for your support.
