News from the Principal
Ahakoa ngā uaua, kia toa, kia kaha, kia manawanui
When you find things in life are difficult, be strong, stand tall and be of great heart.
Kia ora koutou katoa,
We hope that everyone had a wonderful long weekend – wasn’t the weather glorious?
Positive Puberty Programme
It was great to see our Kōtare Nui Year 5/6 parents attending the Positive Puberty parent information session last evening led by Nest Consulting who will be running the programme on Thursday with the children.
With some of our girls physically developing earlier these days, we have been asked to investigate the possibility of running an initial Year 4 programme for the girls to prepare them with information about periods, period management and an introduction to puberty. We have sent out a letter and google form today to gauge how many families would want their daughters to attend a programme later in the term and will act on the feedback.
Last Term’s Kōtare Iti EOTC trip to Birkenhead Leisure Centre.
While our Year 5 and Year 6 tamariki were at Camp our Year 4 students had an amazing day at Birkenhead Leisure Centre. A very special thanks to David Ding and Harcourts Cooper and Co who sponsored the day. The children had a blast scaling the rock climbing walls in the leisure centre, followed by learning about basic orienteering out and about outside. A huge thank you to the teachers and parents who accompanied the day’s activities and to Ms Maxwell and Miss Walker for organising the day.
Junky Monkeys Coming to Windy Ridge
We have booked Junky Monkeys to bring in their amazing array of loose parts on 9 December. It will be great to see the whole school enjoying their play in the grounds. We would love those parents who can come along to join us and be part of the fun, observing how our play-based learning works. More details to follow, so watch this space!
Structured Literacy Update
Ruth Blair, our Structured Literacy facilitator is back in school this week, working with the teachers and tamariki. Following the amazing progress that we are seeing with the spelling programme, Ruth is now focusing on using decodable readers for our beginner readers and catchup readers right up into the Senior School.
Enjoy the rest of your week, everyone.
Ka kite anō au i a koutou.

Scholastic Book Orders
Please place your book orders for issue 7 by this Thursday 27th October. https://www.scholastic.co.nz/parents/lucky-book-club/
Sun Hats
As we have done in the past, and as we move into summer we ask that Tamariki have a hat to wear when outside while at school during Term 4 to offer protection from the sun.
School Hours
Please remember that the school hours are 8.30am to 3pm. Please remind your children that if you drop them off before this time they are expected to wait in the shelter area. The very earliest that they can be dropped off is 8.00 am. Any earlier and they will be taken to the Skids Before School programme and parents will be invoiced. This is a health and safety issue. Also, we are having some concerning issues with students playing on the front footpath and road areas during unsupervised times. This is also a health and safety issue. We would not want to see any of our students harmed in any way.
Road Patrol
We have a new roster starting this week. However, we are very short of parent supervision. Anybody can be an adult supervisor and it only requires 20 minutes of your time, either in the morning or the afternoon. Training will be provided. Please contact Jane Brown jbrown@windyridge.school.nz or Jenine Maxwell jmaxwell@windyridge.school.nz
