Ahakoa ngā uaua, kia toa, kia kaha, kia manawanui
When you find things in life are difficult, be strong, stand tall and be of great heart.
Kia ora koutou katoa,
A warm welcome back to school for Term 4. We hope that everyone had an amazing holiday and that our tamariki are pleased to be back at school for Term 4; goodness where has the year gone?
An Exciting Term Ahead
Term 4 is shaping up to be a busy time with many exciting and engaging events planned. See below the list of events scheduled so far.
Obviously, with the better weather, we will be able to hold whole school assemblies outside and we are looking forward to coming together to share as a whole school once again.
Kapa Haka
We are glad to welcome Whaea Moana to Windy Ridge as our new Kapa Haka tutor for our Year 4-6 performance group. She has led Kapa Haka at other Glenfield schools in the past and we are delighted to be able to work with her.
National ShakeOut
The children will be learning about the National ShakeOut next week, learning about how to keep safe in the event of an earthquake. We will be holding a ShakeOut Drill on Friday morning where they will be able to practice their “drop, cover and hold”. Read more about the National ShakeOut
Hats
As we have done in the past, and as we move into summer we ask that Tamariki have a hat to wear when outside while at school during Term 4 to offer protection from the sun.
End-of-Year Prizegiving
We are planning to hold 2 end-of-year assemblies on the last day of the term in the Hall. Pīwakawaka teachers have very kindly agreed to move their equipment aside to let this happen, so a big thank you to them.
We have decided that we will try something a little different this year with a shorter assembly of the Pīwakawaka and Kōtare Iti students with songs and certificates to celebrate the year, followed by a Kōtare Nui Prizegiving Assembly, including the Year 6 graduation ceremony. At both assemblies, we will have musical items and Kapa Haka and really celebrate our tamariki’s success and achievements.
The New Building
Over the holidays our building project has continued at pace and we are now seeing the interior really taking shape. We are excited to announce that our Year 5 students are going to engage in a programme focused on understanding construction in our school. This module is led by trained teacher and quantity surveyor Bronny Apted, from Woodview Construction. Here they will learn about how buildings are designed and built. The sessions will take place every Thursday afternoon in Room 4. Some later sessions may include visits to the building site.
Tomorrow afternoon, our Year 6 students will get to visit the building site. They will be the first students to do so. Obviously, health and safety have been considered and during the sessions, no actual construction will take place. We are looking at moving into the new building during Term 2 of next year.
Please don’t forget that School is closed for Labour Day on Monday of next week – we hope that everyone has an enjoyable long weekend.
Enjoy the rest of your week, everyone.
Ka kite anō au i a koutou.

School Hours
Please remember that the school hours are 8.30am to 3pm. Please remind your children that if you drop them off before this time they are expected to wait in the shelter area. The very earliest that they can be dropped off is 8.00 am. Any earlier and they will be taken to the Skids Before School programme and parents will be invoiced. This is a health and safety issue. Also, we are having some concerning issues with students playing on the front footpath and road areas during unsupervised times. This is also a health and safety issue. We would not want to see any of our students harmed in any way.
