Cluster Sports Day

Our Netball, Soccer, and Touch teams had an amazing day at the Kaipatiki Cluster Sports Day at Glenfield College today.  Everyone played really well and demonstrated great respect and sportsmanship towards their opponents. A huge thank you to Ms. Maxwell for organising the event and for the parents and supporters who went along to cheer on our sporting stars.

Results: 2nd place for Soccer with players of the day: Eloise (netball), Patrick (soccer), and Sadie (touch)

It was also great to see the College students –  many of whom would have been ex-students refereeing and running the events. Likewise for the Glenfield Intermediate students who worked as helpers too. What a great community sporting event!

Real-time Reporting

This afternoon, we have emailed information out around our plans to introduce Real-time Reporting here at Windy Ridge. As our communication explains, the new model aims to give parents and caregivers more immediate information about the successes and great work that their children are achieving. Instead of waiting to read about these in mid-year and end of year formalised reports you will be told in real-time/as it happens. Once you have read the document, we ask you to share your feedback with us via the Introduction of Real-Time Reporting Initial Survey.  We anticipate this will take you just a few minutes to complete, and will give us useful feedback around our new style of reporting. We will be holding a parent information session on Wednesday 7 July between 6:30-7:30 pm to share more information about our new exciting approach.   Read more

We will be celebrating Matariki on Friday 2 July at School starting with a Matariki manaakitanga e whaikorero or Matariki blessing and speeches led by Matua Danny Watson starting at 8:15 am. This will be followed by a shared breakfast and an opportunity for parents and children to visit their classes to look at their Matariki work. We’d like to thank Mrs. Hall for all of her work organising this event. More information will be issued early next week, so please lookout for it.

Sickness in School

Unfortunately, winter has hit and so have the colds.  Can we please remind you that if your child is sick that they must stay at home.  We don’t want to share the colds and bugs around any more than we have to. Our teachers have unfortunately succumbed to the bugs too and we have had a number unable to come to school over the last couple of weeks. While we have a good list of relievers who work both here and at other local schools, it is becoming increasingly difficult to ensure cover. Please be assured that we call every reliever on our books to get cover before we have to split and combine classes, but this does sometimes have to happen.

Teacher Only Day

Our Term 3 teacher only day will take place on Friday 25 June and school will be closed for instruction. Skids will be operating all day.  While we are aware that such days are inconvenient and create difficulties for working parents, they are a country-wide agreed part of the teachers’ last union pay claim and form part of the Teachers’ Accord Agreement. Teacher and Principal unions will be negotiating the next collective agreements soon, and we hope that everyone will get behind them as they stand for better pay and conditions for our profession.

Keep warm and dry and stay well everyone,

Ka kite anō au i a koutou.

Jonathan Lambert

Have Your Say

Like many other schools, we use the services of School Docs who design policies for many New Zealand schools; updating them to reflect current legislation.  Periodically parents are asked to review certain policies.  This month parents are invited to have their say around the Reporting to Parents on Student Progress and Achievement.  If you would like to participate in the review:

  1. Visit the website
  2. Enter the username (windyridge) and password (WRS0629).
  3. Follow the link to the relevant policy as listed.
  4. Read the policy.
  5. Click the Policy Review button at the top right-hand corner of the page.
  6. Select the reviewer type “Parent”.
  7. Enter your name (optional).
  8. Submit your ratings and comments.
  9. If you don’t have internet access, school office staff can provide you with printed copies of the policy and a review form.

  • WINDY RIDGE PARENTS Facebook – We have a closed Facebook page for Windy Ridge parents – please send a friend request to be part of this page, we are only able to accept parents and caregivers to this page.  It is a valuable page for reminders, information, and general WRS ‘stuff.
  • Walking School Bus –   We have 2 Walking School Buses at WRS.  They leave from Stephanie Close and Hiwihau Place.  Most of them leave around 8.15am in the morning to get the students to school for 8.30am.  If you would like your child(ren) to come on the Walking School Bus AND are able to help just one morning or afternoon a week, see Mrs Yiu in the office for a form and she will pass your details on to the right person.  The Walking School Buses are solely run by awesome volunteers so your help is always appreciated.

We have attached the link to the Ministry of Education parent information website with more information.  For advice on treatments:   Will my child have to stay away from school? No, the school will not exclude your child or ask you to keep them at home because they have lice. You don’t need to keep your child at home while you’re treating lice either. We have combs available in the office, but also your local chemist and supermarket will sell products.
