Tēnā koutou katoa,

Kia ora Koutou,Fa’atalofa atu i o tatou aiga Samoa –  we send greetings to our Samoan families.

Samoan Language Week

This year’s theme for Vaiaso o le Gagana SamoaSamoan Language Week 2021 is Poupou le lotoifale. Ola manuia le anofale which means strengthen the posts of your house, for all to thrive. This aligns perfectly with our philosophy of building mana in our students and in supporting our students’ learning and well-being. In both our ESOL and some of our whānau rooms we have learned about aspects of the Samoan language this week, and we acknowledge and celebrate our Samoan students and families.

To celebrate the Samoan language here are some basic Samoan language phrases:

Concern and Vigilance

As was reported earlier in the week via Facebook and SeeSaw, one of our students was approached by a man who got out of his grey car while parked on Roberts Road, offered a $5 note, and struck up a conversation.  The child walked away and continued to school unharmed, although slightly freaked out. While this isolated incident may have been innocent, we obviously took it seriously. NZ Police took a statement from the child and followed up with the child’s parents. We don’t have any further information to share but do urge parents and children to be vigilant when walking to and from school.

Support Staff Week

It is support staff week 8-11 June and we would like to celebrate our wonderful teacher aides, office staff, and caretaker. Thank you to them all for the amazing work that they do with our students, and for providing such a professional level of support to the school and community.

Long Weekend

With the Queen’s Birthday long weekend comes a time for us all to take an extra day to relax and recharge our batteries.  A reminder that school will be closed on Monday.  We wish everyone a peaceful and relaxed time with family and friends.

Fai se faaiuga vaiaso faaiuga tagata uma.
Have a great weekend everyone,

Ka kite anō au i a koutou.

Have Your Say

Like many other schools, we use the services of School Docs who design policies for many New Zealand schools; updating them to reflect current legislation.  Periodically parents are asked to review certain policies.  This month parents are invited to have their say around the Reporting to Parents on Student Progress and Achievement.  If you would like to participate in the review:

  1. Visit the website https://windyridge.schooldocs.co.nz/1893.htm
  2. Enter the username (windyridge) and password (WRS0629).
  3. Follow the link to the relevant policy as listed.
  4. Read the policy.
  5. Click the Policy Review button at the top right-hand corner of the page.
  6. Select the reviewer type “Parent”.
  7. Enter your name (optional).
  8. Submit your ratings and comments.
  9. If you don’t have internet access, school office staff can provide you with printed copies of the policy and a review form.

Sausage Sizzle Fundraiser

We need some more volunteers for a Bunnings sausage sizzle on Sunday 25th July. Sign up here for a shift>>>>> volunteersignup.org/T7LKX

This is a great chance of fundraising from wallets outside our direct school community.

Chocolate Fundraiser
WOW – thank you so much to all the families who have sold a box (or 10). Please remember if you are unable to sell your box please return it to the office so another family can sell it. Even part boxes. If you have sold your box and want another please contact the office and they will arrange to send another box home. If you don’t want to sell a box please consider making the donation on Kindo of $25 this is the profit we make per box or buy a bar or two from another family. Thank you again for all your support.
Movie Night
We are planning a movie night in the old falcon double classroom (Old Room 9-10) before they are demolished to make way for the new build. Before we confirm details, does anyone in the school community have a Large projector screen/ Projector and or speakers we could use for the set up. Or a contact we could hire them from at a fundraising friendly price.

If you are interested in joining the PTA or just want to volunteer to help with events like school sausage sizzles or discos, please email pta@windyridge.school.nz, or contact Kieren or Joy for more info.
