School Donation Replacement Scheme:   A Budget 2019 initiative will see Decile 1-7 state and state integrated Boards of Trustees able to choose to receive a $150 per student, per year payment added to the school operations grant instead of seeking donations from parents.  Although donations to schools are voluntary, families can feel under pressure to pay them and this can place pressure on household budgets. This initiative is designed to alleviate that pressure and expectation. It also recognises that Decile 1-7 schools can find it difficult to raise funds from their communities.  Boards of Trustees that opt-in to the donations scheme will still be able to ask parents and guardians for payments related to optional activities outside the curriculum, for example optional after-school sports.

The WRS Board of Trustees has agreed to accept the scheme for 2020 and as such will not be asking for school donations next year.  The funding provided by the Ministry of Education is to cover donations and school trips and events, excluding overnight camps and after-school sport fees.  The Board believes that this will take a significant pressure off many of our families.   The school staff will have to make decisions about the frequency and contexts of trips and events in order to work within the budget provided, but we are committed to maintaining a range of experiences for our learners.

PhotoLife – On Monday 4th November all students will be having class and individual photos taken in the hall, this notice was sent home yesterday PhotoLife Notice  If you would like to have sibling photo taken (including preschoolers) please collect this notice from the office and complete before photo day and hand into the office PhotoLife Sibling Notice

Working Bee  – On Saturday 2nd November we are holding a school working bee, we are planning to plant 2 large pohutukawa trees, removing plants from the junior fence line and remove weeds and dead branches from the bush area at the back gate.  Please let the office know if you can help, we plan to be onsite from 8.30am to 3pm.  Please bring gloves, pruners, spades, buckets and wheelbarrows.

KickStart Breakfast –  is held in the hall everyday from 8.30am to 8.50am, this is for any child who would like to have some weetbix, milk and fruit before school.  We are looking for adults to help supervise the breakfast, if you have some free time in the morning please contact the office or complete the attached form.  The weetbix and milk are donated by Sanitarium and Fonterra.  The canned fruit is an optional extra and we rely on donations to offer this, so if you would like to donate a can please drop them into the office. Kickstart Breakfast Club Parent Volunteers
