Welcome back
Term 3 has started well and we were very pleased to welcome our new families, students and staff to WRS at our powhiri on Monday.   We continue to grow and now we have over 300 students at our school.  The term holidays saw a lot of activity at the school, with teachers onsite to prepare for the term, property action and professional learning for teachers.
Staff News
We are looking forward to having our two Caroline’s (Mrs Andrews and Ms Walker) back next week, after their sick leave and recovery.  Both are feeling better and keen to get back to see their students.  We welcome Mrs Kelly Pitcher to the staff, working in Falcon team as a learning support helper.  Please make her feel welcome if you see her around the school.
Student Led Conferences – AUGUST 19th  (later date)
We have decided to postpone our planned conferences until week 5 to allow the new and returning staff to get up to speed with their students learning and prepare thoroughly for the event.
Student Led Conferences involve the parent, the teacher and the student, and provide an opportunity to review the learning goal that was set in term 2.  The students will also talk about their learning progress and provide examples of their work for their parents.  It is a really valuable learning opportunity for students, requiring them to share what they have learnt, what they are currently working on and what their challenges and future goals are.  The teacher is on hand to support the child, and clarify any information for the parent.   More information will come soon on how to book for conferences.  PLEASE NOTE that school will close earlier on this day (1.30pm) to accommodate the conferences.
Assembly Changes
We are constantly reviewing what we do and how effective it is, and recently have been looking at our school assemblies.  We will be trying something new this term giving each team responsibility for leading the School Assembly, giving more children from all areas in the school an opportunity to have a go at public speaking and presenting.  We start next week with Fantail team taking the lead.
Nature Play Programme –  This term, each class in our Pukeko, Falcon and Tui teams will get a chance to spend a day in outdoor play under the guidance of Ms Maxwell. In order to operate this programme safely and effectively, we need a minimum of six parents to sign up as helpers for the day.  Please check out the attached timetable and use the sign up code to volunteer as a helper for your child’s class date.  We would also welcome any parent who is interested in helping, even on a day their child is not involved.      Nature Play Programme
