Meet the Teams  – 20th February
We invite you to join us on the 20th to meet the teachers in your child’s team, and to find our more about what they have planned for the year.  They will also give you a short presentation about the team, their routines and expectations.  Rooms will be open from 5pm for you to wander through and ‘read the walls’, seeing what is up and on display.  Our Learning support room will also be open for the evening for parents who want to know more about the English Language (ESOL) learning programme.
Team Presentations will be at:
5 pm        Fantail team – rooms 1 and 2
5.30pm   Pukeko team – rooms 5, 6, 7, 8
6 pm        Falcon team – rooms 9, 10, 11, 12
6.30pm   Tui team – rooms 13, 14, 15
We will also have the Families in Parks team here on the night so your children can play on the field while you attend the presentations.
The PTA will have cold drinks and frozen juicies for sale on the night also.   We will send home a flyer closer to the night with more detail for you.  We look forward to seeing you on the 20th.
Family Science Update
We will be taking a break from Family Science Workshops during Terms 1 and 2 this year.  Ashleigh Fox and her team, along with Sue Odgen and myself, will be using this time to develop a series of Robotics workshops which we plan to pilot at our school in Term 3.  The Robotics workshops will consist of five evening sessions and cater for 8 students.  So while we will miss having these science workshops at our school in the first two terms we are really looking forward to being able to introduce something new later in the year.  Our long term plan will be to alternate the original science workshops with the robotics workshops on a term-by-term basis.
Kaipatiki Kahui Ako – our Community of Learning
Windy Ridge School is part of a larger group of schools and ECE centres that work together to improve outcomes for our students and communities.   We have been part of the community of learning for three years, and are enjoying the way we are able to learn from and with other professionals to improve our practices.
We started this year  on January 29th with a conference at AUT for over 250 local teachers and leaders.  We had a strong focus on wellbeing for both teachers and students, and were delighted to have our very own Simone Price, who has had two children go through our school, take two workshops on mindfulness for teachers and mindfulness for students. Both workshops were very popular and well received.
We have identified wellness and wellbeing as a key focus for the whole Community of Learning, as well as specifically for our school.   Wellbeing relates to physical health, social and emotional health and well as mental health.   We are all better placed to learn and realise our potential when we are happy, calm and focussed.   You will be hearing more about this during the year.
