Industrial Action – Teacher Industrial Action
Good afternoon to you all,
Thank you in advance for your understanding and support for  the upcoming industrial action by teachers across NZ.   While mediation is still underway, the union (NZEI) has planned for a national strike day on August 15th, and on that day primary schools will be closed.  You will need to make other plans for your children on that day.
This action is not taken lightly, and we appreciate that it will be a disruption to families.  Unfortunately we have come to the point where we are no longer able to continue under the current conditions.  Our profession is in staffing crisis and we have tired of requesting for increases in funding to support the vast range of needs in our schools. We have sent home a separate notice explaining in greater detail the concerns of the profession, and appreciate the support shown by the local and wider communities.
Parent Helpers – Road patrol
We are often asked by parents how they might be able to help out at school and at the moment we desperately need adult helpers to help keep our road crossings safe.  Your child does need to be a road patrol monitor for you to help out.  We provide all the training you need, and only require your help for between 15 – 30 mins a session.   It is a very important role and one that we are struggling to fill.  Please consider helping out and make contact with the school office if you can spare time either before or after school.
 Hello from the Board

Welcome back to Term 3 and what a busy term it will be!  The days are inching longer and Spring is just around the corner.  The junior playground is coming along nicely, thanks to Stefan and his team and will be up and running before we know it.  You may have seen in the media this morning that the Primary School Teachers and Principals have voted for a full day of strike action on August 15. The Board of Trustees have voted to close the school for the full day to show our support to our hardworking colleagues.  No one will be onsite to look after your children, so please make plans for their care that day.  We will of course keep you updated with progress on these negotiations.  You will find information attached to this newsletter with more details.

Have a wonderful day, Caroline Hudson, Chairperson, Board of Trustees

Keeping Ourselves Safe:

This term we are all revisiting the Keeping Ourselves Safe programme.  KOS aims to help our students to learn and apply a range of safety skills that they can use when interacting with others.  With the support of Constable Steve Harwood, they learn to recognise the differences between healthy and unhealthy relationships, and develop strategies to keep themselves safe.

School App – as we look for more ways to keep communication with our families quick and easy we now have a new tool.  The Windy Ridge School app – Skool Loop, this can easily been downloaded onto your mobile phones by simply following the below instructions.  You will be able to send absentee notes, view the newsletter, check our calendar and contact any staff member.   We are in the process of adding notices and permissions, we will also be able to send out alerts for reminders of upcoming events and important information.

Of course, in line with our Travelwise policy, we promote our students (especially from Year 3 up) walking to school.  We have four Walking School Buses and children who live further from school can be dropped off a distance from the school so that they can complete their journey to school by foot.  Our Travelwise Students will be promoting active, safe travel to school over the term.
