Parenting Support Programme – Help needed
Whanau Marama are reviewing their parenting Support Programme and would like to speak to any parents from any culture who have been in NZ for less than 5 years.  They would like to know what information you found useful or what you wish you had known about being a parent in NZ – supports available, how schools work etc.   This will help them shape their next programme.
The facilitator (Noriko Hill – an ex-WRS mum) would like to meet in week 1 or 2 of next term with a small group of people. For more information please contact Noriko – [email protected]
Quiz Night – PTA event – THANK YOU!!!
Many thanks to the organising team and all those who attended the Quiz Night last Friday evening.  Great fun was had by all and we raised over $5,400 in funds for the School.
Future Inspiration
On a recent conference we attended  these were some of the key messages about the future of education:
Due to the changes in the outside world we have become aware of the need to prepare our students for a very different future and the unknown possibilities of tomorrow. As teachers and parents, it is up to us to ensure we are doing the best job possible.
What will not change is the relationships we build with our children, the time we spend with them and the experiences we share together. Teaching them how to have adaptive agility, empathy and resilience and being there for them when they need you.
What sort of lives will our children experience in the future? What sort of future will we create for our children?
These are questions that at the moment we do not have an answer for, however the secret of success is not predicting the future, it’s creating people that can thrive in a future that cannot be predicted.
Community Survey
The role of the Board of Trustees at Windy Ridge School is to ensure that all students have equitable access to education and are reaching their full potential as individuals.  We also have to ensure that we are providing a safe physical and emotional environment for students and employees.
It is important to us to connect with our community and to receive feedback.  We would appreciate it if you took the time to complete this survey.  Your answers are submitted anonymously direct to Stacey Anderson, Board Trustee. Click on this link for the survey: https://goo.gl/forms/iNT4T5MPrwP9FRII2

Animates Holiday ProgramSchool holidays are just around the corner, and for the first time, Animates is partnering with ‘Kids Safe with Dogs’ to provide the perfect activity to help educate children how to behave around dogs. Your local Animates store will be hosting free seminars at 11am on Thursday 5th and 12th of October. Trained staff will use interactive real life scenarios, using a toy dog, to teach children how to behave around their own dog, and those that they encounter on the street.

Key points will include:

  •  How to approach a dog (when tied up, when eating, when in a car etc.)
  •  How and where to pat a dog
  •  How to make eye contact with a dog including best body language to use
  •  Learning the importance of always asking permission before approaching a dog
  • These sessions will also be beneficial you’re thinking about introducing a fluffy friend to the family. There will also be the opportunity to ask the in-store experts for advice, and children who complete the workshop will take home a free activity book and certificate to proudly display on their wall or fridge.Although bookings aren’t necessary, the events are usually well attended so it’s advisable to arrive early.
