News from the Principal

Congratulations!!

Last week we had two teams of four students represent us at the EPro8 Technology Challenge at Glenfield Intermediate.  The teams had to complete a series of challenges by designing and constructing using a range of simple machines and equipment: wheels, pulleys, weights, screws, switches etc.  We were very impressed with our two teams who represented the school extremely well, finishing 3rd and 5th out of 12 teams.  The 3rd placed team ‘ the Phoenix Brothers ‘ will now go to the regional finals. This is the first time we have competed in an event like this, and given how much fun everyone had, we will certainly do it again!

Well done to both teams: ‘The Eeveenators’: Ally, Harmony, Joshua, Chase B  and ‘The Phoenix Brothers’: Chase S, Tyler, JP and Jake.

Teachers Union Meeting to discuss the Funding Review – FRIDAY 9 SEPTEMBER

An important notice is coming home tonight regarding the Union meeting next week.  We need EVERY CHILD to return a slip indicating whether they will be leaving at 12.30pm or staying until 3pm.  Please look in schoolbags for this bright green notice.

JUNIOR SWIMMING – The Glenfield Pools is unable to accommodate any change to the programme, so unfortunately the swimming session that week will be cancelled.  Once they have confirmed their decision about fees, we will let you know.

Windy Ridge Cross Country – Next Week –  Date: Monday 5th September    Time 1:15pm approx start.
We are looking forward to the annual school cross country run next week, and invite you along to share in the afternoons activity. Children will run in races according to their age.  Order of races: 5 year olds run first, followed by 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 & 11 year olds run last.
Children will need to bring a change of clothes and a towel in a plastic bag in case they get too muddy. Running in bare feet is the best option, but not compulsory.
The top 5 places in race 8, 9, 10, & 11 year olds qualify for the Inter-school Cluster Cross Country race on Thursday 8th September at Kaipatiki Park.
Parents, if you can help out on the day please email [email protected].
Year 4-5-6 Parent Meeting – CAMP and EOTC day – THURSDAY 8th September 6.30pm in Rm 13
In the last week of this term the Year 5 and 6 children are off to Piha for camp for three days, and they will be joined for one day by the Year 4 students.   The Board got a sneak peak of the programme last night, and on Thursday next week we are inviting parents to join us for a meeting to share the programme, the planning and expectations for the camp.
Furniture – Free to a good home
We have some old furniture that we need to get rid of; tables, desks, etc.  While it is no longer of use to us, it does still have a bit of life left, so if you would like it please let the office know and arrange to come and collect it.  Photos will be posted on Facebook later this week.
Help Needed for our Kauri Club reading programme – We need some more adult readers to help support the reading programme that runs in the mornings.  Please let us know if you can help.
