Student Led Conferences – Wednesday August 3rd from 2pm – SCHOOL CLOSES AT 1.30 PM.
Student Led Conferences are an opportunity for your child to reflect on their learning and explain in their own words their effort and achievements so far this year. This process is powerful in developing both accountability and responsibility, contributing towards our goal of growing independent and reflective learners. Teachers will be available in rooms to clarify or expand on any information the children share with you. If you have specific questions or concerns, it would be useful to communicate those to the teacher prior to the meeting so they can ensure they address them at the conference, or make another time to meet with you. Mrs Millard will also be available to speak with those families involved with the ESOL programmes.
You can book a conference time at www.schoolinterviews.co.nz (code fkrxn). See the office if you have issues with this or need help making a booking.
If you need help with Childcare on this afternoon, please make contact with Steve ( 021 298 7926 ) who runs the Afterschool programme as he will be opening early that day.
Room Changes and Staffing
Next term we open a new classroom – Room 6 – in the room that previously held our school library. Mrs Turner will be opening that room with our newest students, and working closely with Miss Weston in Room 7 to develop a smaller version of the Fantail team learning environment. This will bring a change for Room 7 also, and we are waiting to confirm the appointment of an experienced teacher in the next few days. She will take the literacy block each day for Room 7, and will be working alongside Mrs Turner so there is continuity for the students.
Mr Taylor and Mrs Walker have been working very hard to move the library resources over to the classroom space in the Hall, and everything is looking fabulous there now. You will have an opportunity to see the ‘new’ library on the Conference afternoon, as it will be open for the Scholastic Book Fair and the Glenfield Intermediate staff ‘Q&A’ opportunity.
Sports Coaching – Free training session
We are hosting a free training session for anyone interested in sports coaching, either here at school or in clubs elsewhere. The session is here at school on THURSDAY evening at 7pm. Meet in the staffroom. You are most welcome to join us – just let the office know if you can come so we know who to expect.
End of term information
It has been a very busy term and everyone is feeling a bit tired, especially our students. They have worked very hard this term and will need the two week break to recharge their batteries ready for yet another busy term. Many thanks to the large number of parents that have supported our teams on school trips this term; if the photos are anything to go by everyone had a great time at their various events and activities.
Please note that school closes this Friday at the normal time (3pm), and Term Three starts back on Monday 25 July at 8.30am. As we prepare to head off for the holiday break, we remind you to feel welcome to use the school grounds over this time. We do ask that if children are here at the school that they are supervised by an adult, and that they try not to distract the adults working in the school over this time; OSCAR Holiday programme, teachers in classrooms, cleaners, property maintenance contractors etc. Please phone the police if you have concerns about how other people or groups of people are using the grounds. We really appreciate your support in ensuring our buildings and property remains safe.
Please keep an eye out for reports and newsletters coming home on FRIDAY.
As always, thank you for your on-going support of our school
