Room 11 used Chromatography to investigate the ink in our everyday felt pens.
- Chromatography (/ˌkroʊməˈtɒɡrəfi/; from Greek χρῶμα chroma “color” and γράφειν graphein “to write” ) is the collective term for a set of laboratory techniques for the separation of mixtures.
It was amazing what we discovered. Take a look at these pics from our experiment using water and a paper towel.
- We made a design with 3 colours.
- We placed it carefully in some water.
- The water crept up the paper.
- Where did the yellow come from I used green?
- Our designs began to change.
- We had more colours than we started with.
