Meet the Board of Trustees
The Board’s Role
The B.O.T assumes a governance role within the school. Governance is a “hands off” process whereby the board ensures that the school is well managed and led without itself doing the managing. Therefore the B.O.T is not directly involved in the day to day running of the school. Concerns or complaints regarding staff, pupils or school organisation should be first directed to the teacher then senior teacher or principal. Should a satisfactory resolution not be achieved using the above system an approach to the board by letter outlining the situation is appropriate.
Generally the principal will deal with the vast majority of situations.
The Board meet once a month in the staffroom and these meetings are always publicised in the weekly newsletter. Parents are welcome to attend as observers and may apply for speaking rights.
If you wish to contact a Board member you can do so by going through the school office. Below is some more specific information about each of your representatives and the portfolios they hold.
Chairperson – Nicky Primrose
I have been involved with Windy Ridge School for a number of years now with my youngest child Lexi being a Year 4 pupil at Windy Ridge and my oldest Dylan having been through Windy Ridge and now at College. Initially I was involved in the PTA (and still am!) I was then co-opted to the Board of Trustees towards the end of 2006 and have been an elected member since. In my current position as Chairperson of the Board I hold the responsibility for the co-ordination and running of Board meetings, general overseeing of all Board activities and liaising with the Principal. I am also a member of the Property sub-committee looking after the Property Portfolio. At present I am employed as the Office Manager for a residential Valuation Practice and can offer a variety of skills including organisation, management, office administration and secretarial duties. Over the past few years the Board of Trustees has been instrumental in a number of positive changes around the school including the upgrade of the Administration Block, the introduction of new technology into the classrooms (interactive teaching stations and whiteboards) and the appointment of a new Principal. As Trustees we are proud to be affiliated with Windy Ridge School and will endeavour to ensure strong, stable governance and management practices resulting in excellent student achievement. My challenge to you is to offer a little of your time to support Windy Ridge School and help make it the best it can be.
Community Consultant – Theresa Kinloch
Hi, my name is Theresa Kinloch and I have 2 children at Windy Ridge Primary, and 2 older children who are both at University. I have 14 years experience in the Early Childhood and Primary sectors teaching, so I feel I have an excellent understanding of how schools work and the role the Board has to ensure that every child receives a quality education.
I have been on the Board since 2007 and have enjoyed the opportunity to help implement some of the positive changes that are apparent at Windy Ridge. I look forward to working with our new Principal to ensure our school continues to retain it uniqueness with its small ‘country school’ feel, while ensuring we offer our children a first class educational experience.
My role on the Board is to be the Community Consultant, so please feel free to approach me with any questions or concerns, or just to say hi when you see me around the school. I believe it is vital that as parents and caregivers we have a voice and opportunity to contribute to our children’s education.
Finance – Tracey Neal-GailerMy name is Tracey Neal-Gailer and I started with the Windy Ridge Board of Trustees in April 2007. I am married to Mike and we have two children. Our daughter, Emma started at Windy Ridge School as a New Entrant and is now at Intermediate. Our son, Joel, is a current pupil in Year 5. I have an accountancy background and am currently working full time as a financial software consultant in the city. I try to get to as many school functions as I can so, if I haven’t met you yet, please introduce yourselves to me and the other board members when you see us. I am looking forward to working with the new principal to get as much value out of our meager budget as possible. Our aim is always to try to give our children the best possible facilities and resources for these important first years of their education.
Teacher Representative – Jane Brown
Community Consultation – Paul Morrissey Hi, my name is Paul Morrissey and I have been on the Board since 2006. I have worked in television for many years and at present I am Technical Manager at TVNZ. My wife Lesley and I have 3 children, 2 of which are at Windy Ridge and our oldest is now at Westlake Girls. Windy Ridge has played an important part in our lives since we moved to NZ from England 6 years ago. Not only has it educated our children but has provided us with a network of friends so I feel strongly about assisting the school in any way that I can. This is my first experience in belonging to a Board of Trustees and I have found it really enjoyable, challenging and, at times, a little daunting. My fancy title on the board is Community Consultant so please feel free to approach me at any time with any questions or concerns you may have.
Cultural - Darren Hayward
I am the newest board member, having joined the board in early 2010. I am currently a product manager at Panasonic, and am also studying a post graduate diploma in business at Auckland University’s Business School in the evenings. My wife Gillian and I are thrilled to be actively involved in the life of Windy Ridge School. She is treasurer on the PTA, and I am involved with coaching the boys’ basketball team, and can also be found in the DJ booth at the school discos. We have 3 children at Windy Ridge, Oliver in year 4, Georgia in year 3 and Sophie in year 1. I believe Windy Ridge Primary has a very special culture about it. It is a vibrant melting pot of so many different cultures and socio-economic groups. It is also small enough that every child and parent knows one another, which provides a real sense of safety and community that is lacking in many larger schools. I am responsible for the cultural portfolio on the board, a role which I see as extremely important. I look forward to serving the school and all its stakeholders over the next few years.
