Planning for 2021

As we are currently working on classroom organisation for next year, can I ask parents and whānau whose children are not planning to return to Windy Ridge in 2021 to let the School know?  Please email

Mana Programme for 2021

We will be introducing an exciting new programme next year entitled Mana Hiwihau.  The objective of this programme will be to celebrate personal identity, culture and belonging, as a vehicle to affirming one’s personal mana.  Initially, this programme will be taught around children researching and creating/formulating their Pepeha as part of their wider appreciation of tikanga and kawa .  The natural extension to this programme will be to teach students how mana can help regulate social and emotional behaviour.

Hat Survey

Thank you to all of the parents who completed the “Hats, Hats, Hats” survey which I shared in last week’s newsletter. Before talking to the data, I would like to assure everyone that there was no hidden agenda behind this survey, instead, consultation with our school community around how best to keep our children sun safe during the summer months while at School.

Data:   100% of parents who completed the survey acknowledge the importance of children wearing                 hats outside. 66% indicating that Windy Ridge should require children to wear a hat when outside.  44% thought that a wide-brimmed hat would offer the best protection, but no set colour won the day.  There was a comment about us needing to promote the application of sunscreen, and it is my understanding that classes do have this available.

Outcome:      The results of this consultation, confirms my thinking around requiring children to                               wear a hat outside while at School during the summer months (terms 1 and 4).  A wide-brimmed hat is the preferred option, as it offers maximum protection, otherwise a bucket hat.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone,

Ka kite anō au i a koutou
