Welcome back everyone to Term 2.
We have a busy term planned, and I encourage you to check the school calendar and stay up to date with the news and events via the newsletter, Facebook, Seesaw and Skool Loop.
Team newsletters will be out in the next few days to give you information about what each of our teams is focussing on this term – please keep an eye out for this.
Board of Trustees – Meet and Greet invitation.  On Monday next week  (6th May) the Board is hosting an informal meeting to speak to any parents who may be considering standing for the Board at our next election.  It is a chance to hear from current trustees about the role and to ask any questions you may have prior to accepting a nomination.  If you are interested, please join us in the Staffroom at 7pm on Monday evening.
Goal Setting Conferences – This term we are offering a conference opportunity for parents, teachers and children to meet and discuss the year so far and what your child’s specific learning goals are.  Research tells us that the most powerful academic discussions involve the child as well as the adults, and for this reason we expect that the children will be part of their own goal setting conversation. ‘Goals that are set for students by the teacher do not have the same level of student ownership’  – (reference)
There is more information about the value of student goal setting and self assessment at the Ministry of Education site:  Assessment Online.
The Goal Setting Conferences are planned for Monday 20 and Tuesday 21 May, and the link to the booking page will be available next week.
Parent Education Event –  On  Wednesday 19th June, the Kaipatiki Kahui Ako is delighted to host an evening with Kathryn Berkett. Kathryn is a mother of two adolescents,
with a Masters in Educational Psychology.  In January Kathryn spoke at our annual teachers’ conference around building resilience in our students. Kathryn was inspirational, so much
so, that the principals wanted to ensure that our community has an opportunity to hear Kathryn’s messages. There are two different sessions depending on the age of your child/ren. Come to one or both!  The first session “The Early Years – Ages 5-9” is from 5.30 – 7pm and the second session “The Adolescent Brain”starts at 7.30pm and ends at 9pm. And the best part is that it is FREE to attend. SEATS ARE LIMITED so please contact the school office to confirm your attendance.
Junky Monkey Day – We will be hosting Conscious Kids on Tuesday May 14th with their Junky Monkey programme; a large scale Loose Parts outdoor play session. We will require a ratio of 1:8 for this programme to run successfully. There will be three sessions throughout the day. 9 am, 11 am and 1:30 pm.
We would love to have some parent volunteers to help us with this exciting day. Please feel free to sign up for more than 1 session.
Please use the following link to sign up to help on the day.
For more information about this organisation you can visit their website –
School Happenings
Please check the school calendar for term dates and information.  You can find it on the website and on Skool Loop.

NZ Warbirds Association would like to invite you to ask your staff and students if they would like to join us in commemorating D-Day 75, Sunday 02 June 2019 at Ardmore Airport.  This year will see the 75th anniversary of D-Day, the allied invasion which marked the start of the Battle of Normandy and the eventual liberation of occupied Europe. On 6 June 1944, the largest seaborne invasion in history saw American, British and Canadian forces landed on the Normandy beaches, against ferocious opposition from the German forces and Luftwaffe. It was the major turning point of World War 2.

On Sunday 2 June, Queen’s Birthday weekend, NZ Warbirds at Ardmore will commemorate this momentous day with a special event at the Warbirds Ardmore base. Flying displays featuring classic WW2 fighters like the Spitfire and Mustang, mock air attacks and action on the ground by military enthusiasts, vintage military and classic aircraft from around the country, formation flying, and some heart-stopping aerobatics by both military and top civilian pilots will guarantee a great day out, not only for aircraft enthusiasts but the whole family. The RNZAF too will be there, subject to operational requirements.

We will also be welcoming some companies who will be showcasing careers in aviation, which should be of particular interest to students.
There will be lots to see between displays, with static aircraft, military vehicles, classic cars, food and refreshments and a range of gifts, apparel and aviation souvenirs at the Warbirds shop! There will be a kids’ zone with amusements for younger children.
