Junky Monkey Day –Thank you to all of the families who helped us to fund raise through our PTA disco and Juicies sale towards our upcoming Junky Monkey day.
We will be hosting Conscious Kids on Tuesday May 14th with their Junky Monkey programme; a large scale Loose Parts outdoor play session. We will require a ratio of 1:8 for this programme to run successfully. There will be three sessions throughout the day. 9 am, 11 am and 1:30 pm.
We would love to have some parent volunteers to help us with this exciting day. Please feel free to sign up for more than 1 session.
Please use the following link to sign up to help on the day.
For more information about this organisation you can visit their website –
Staffing –  We are delighted to welcome Miss Gabrielle Shin to our staff for term 2.  She will be starting our new entrants class in Fantail team.  She is an experienced musician and is very keen to get going in her teaching career.  Please make Gabrielle welcome when you see her.
As you know Ms Bendall will be leaving the school at the end of term 1, Friday 15 April; we will be farewelling her at assembly on Friday morning.

We are obviously very sad to see her go as she has been an important part of our school and a valued colleague.  However we respect her decision and understand that it is driven by family and personal reasons.  We advertised the position and did not receive any suitable applicants, so have re-advertised the position.  It is important to us that we find a worthy applicant, as it is a priority to us that the class has an excellent teacher and there is continuity of the existing high quality programme.  Rather than make a hasty appointment we have decided to move Mrs Sarah Huppler (from Fantail team) to room 5 for the start of the new term.  She already knows many of the children, has been going to swimming with them this term and has spent time in class with them over the last few weeks.  Because of this we anticipate a very smooth transition for both the staff and students.  We will be working very hard to secure the right teacher for our students, within a very difficult national staffing supply.

Board of Trustees News –  The Board of Trustees is considering changing the number of parent representatives on the Board from 5 to 6 to reflect the growth of the school roll and provide greater opportunity for parent involvement at governance level.  They will be  voting on this at the next Board meeting (29 April, 6.30pm).  There is opportunity for you attend the meeting and have your opinions regarding this change heard by the Board.
Board Elections – Meet and Greet –   The Board invites any WRS community members interested in finding out more about the role of the board and governance responsibilities to join them at a Meet and Greet evening on MONDAY 6th May at 7pm in the staffroom.  It is a chance to meet informally and hear from current Board members about their experiences on a school board.  Board elections are coming up later in term 2.

We have attached the link to the Ministry of Education parent information website with more information.  For advice on  treatments:                Will my child have to stay away from school? No, the school will not exclude your child or ask you to keep them at home because they have lice. You don’t need to keep your child at home while you’re treating lice either. We have combs available in the office, but also your local chemist and supermarket will sell products.
  • Walking School Bus –   We have 4 Walking School Buses at WRS.  They leave from Stephanie Close, Stanley Road, Roberts Road and Hiwihau Place.  Most of them leave around 8.15am in the morning to get the students to school for 8.30am.  If you would like your child(ren) to come on the Walking School Bus AND are able to help just one morning or afternoon a week, see Mrs Boyce in the office for a form and she will pass your details on to the right person.  The Walking School Buses are solely run by awesome volunteers so your help is always appreciated.  The Roberts Road bus is not running at the minute as their aren’t enough drivers, so if you’d love to help, we’d greatly appreciate it.     Kind regards Caroline Hudson, WSB Coordinator
