Welcome back to all our students and families
We had a great day yesterday welcoming back all our students.  Many thanks to the families that joined us for the powhiri in the morning – I really enjoy seeing students step in to new leadership roles at the start of each year, and do it so confidently.
Our school wide inquiry this term is “Who am I?” –  celebrating the unique and special skills, abilities, cultures and interests that we each bring to our school community.
Meet the Teams  – 20th February
We invite you to join us on the 20th to meet the teachers in your child’s team, and to find our more about what they have planned for the year.  They will also give you a short presentation about the team, their routines and expectations.  Rooms will be open from 5pm for you to wander through and ‘read the walls’, seeing what is up and on display.
Presentations will be at:
5 pm        Fantail team – rooms 1 and 2
5.30pm   Pukeko team – rooms 5, 6, 7, 8
6 pm        Falcon team – rooms 9, 10, 11, 12
6.30pm   Tui team – rooms 13, 14, 15
We will also have the Families in Parks team here on the night so your children can play on the field while you attend the presentations.  We will send home a flyer closer to the night with more detail for you.  We look forward to seeing you on the 20th.
The start of the year is always a very busy time with so much to do and remember.  We work very hard to ensure that you have all the information you need in order to plan your weeks and budgets.  You will find copies of the notices in a range of different places:
  • Seesaw – an app for your phone
  • Skool Loop – an app for your phone
  • Facebook parents page – you will  need to request to join as it is a closed page (for privacy reasons)
  • WRS website –

All dates and events are also posted on the school calendar – also available through the school website and Skool Loop.

This week each team will send home a team newsletter with more specific information about the team, the teachers and the routines for you and your child.

We encourage you to speak to your child’s whanau teacher first if you have any questions and they can be contacted in person or by email.

Traffic Safety and Parking
Please ensure that everyone (adults too) use the pedestrian and monitored crossings outside the school.   It is not OK for adults to cross the road beyond the crossing as this sets a bad example for our children.
Also a reminder that there is NO parking in the school car parks or dropping students down the back driveway.  You will need to park on the road and walk your child into the school, or teach them how to walk in by themselves.
Please help us to keep all of our children safe by following these rules and setting a good example for our students.
School Happenings
Please check the school calendar for term dates and information.  You can find it on the website and on Skool Loop.
Here are a few important dates for you to start with for the first few weeks:

  • Walking School Bus – Hello, welcome to 2019 from your Walking School Buses.  We have 4 Walking School Buses at WRS.  They leave from Stephanie Close, Stanley Road, Roberts Road and Hiwihau Place.  Most of them leave around 8.15am in the morning to get the students to school for 8.30am.  If you would like your child(ren) to come on the Walking School Bus AND are able to help just one morning or afternoon a week, see Mrs Boyce in the office for a form and she will pass your details on to the right person.  The Walking School Buses are solely run by awesome volunteers so your help is always appreciated.  The Roberts Road bus is not running at the minute as their aren’t enough drivers, so if you’d love to help, we’d greatly appreciate it.            Kind regards Caroline Hudson, WSB Coordinator
