News from the Principal

End of Year News and Information
We are delighted to welcome three new staff members to our team for 2018: Mr Nick Upton, Mrs Caroline Walker and Mrs Heidi Fegan.
We also wish to congratulate Ms Bernie Mahoney who has been appointed to a Team Leaders position next year, leading our Falcon team (Y3-4).
Due to this internal move, we have appointed Mrs Fegan to Tui team next year.  She comes to us from Birkdale Intermediate, and has been teaching in the accelerate class there, and previously also some technology programmes.
Mrs Walker is a familiar face to our school as she has completed two practicums here during her training.  She is recently graduated and will be teaching in Falcon team.
Mr Upton is also a newly graduated teacher but has also taught here previously with Kelly Sports.  He will be teaching in Pukeko Team.
We are really looking forward to having our new teachers on board with us, and they are also very excited to be starting at WRS in the new year.  Please make them welcome when you see them in February.
We are sad to farewell a few of our staff at this time.
Ms Cook leaves us to have her wee baby early next year, as do Mrs Ross-Thompson and Mrs Tyler.  You may well see them around in the first few weeks of the term but then they will be away for the rest of the school year.
Mr Walton, our caretaker, has been amazing filling in for us over this year.  We have certainly appreciated his handyman skills, as he has produced some wonderful furniture and equipment for us in this time, alongside all the other jobs a caretaker has to do.
Mrs de Beurs is also moving on, as she returns to her family on Great Barrier Island at the end of this term.   She has been a great addition to our team, and we are very thankful that she joined us for this last term.
A big thanks to all these people for the positive and professional way that they have contributed to our school. We will miss you.
Reports and New classes
End of Year and Anniversary reports come home to you this Friday. In the envelope will also be the new class placements for 2018.  All children in Years 1-5 will meet with their new teams on the last day, and get a chance to see who else will be in their class and team next year.  Please encourage your children to be positive about the new year, and celebrate the opportunity for new beginnings, friendships and challenges.  As I have said before, change is the only constant in life, and something we all need to learn to manage with a positive attitude.
We have had two new classrooms placed on site and security fencing has gone up today to keep people away from the area.   The contractors are booked to return between 8 – 28 January to re-site them in the correct place, connect all the necessary services and build the decking for the rooms.   For safety reasons it is best if people stay away from the worksite in this time, and we ask that you speak to your children about this if they are up at the school over the holiday break.
Please note that we will also have the OSCAR Club Holiday Programme running over the summer break, and that children not enrolled need to stay away from the Hall and the organised activities during this time to allow the staff to run their programme efficiently.
Holiday access to the School:
You are most welcome to use the school grounds over the holidays, and we appreciate an observant eye being given to the buildings and facilities.  If you have any concerns about damage or misuse please let me know via email or WRS Facebook post.  However if you see damage being done by vandals please contact the police directly; this includes people climbing on roofs, breaking windows etc.
Final words
Thank you to everyone for what has been an exceptionally busy but enjoyable year.  We appreciate your support
We farewell those families not returning to us next year and wish you and your children every happiness at their next school.
Happy holidays, Merry Christmas and we look forward to another great year at WRS next year.
